The National Bio-resource Department, recently established by the Government , has taken a pro-active role in creating better awareness on issues concerning biodiversity and bio-resources. As a part of its mandate, it proposes to promote deeper awareness among school going students about the importance of our Environmental, biodiversity and Bio technology and the relation to all these with every day life. The need for including scientific methods in children at a young age has been felt specially in view of the fact that today we not only need it to make children scientifically aware but also need their complete participation in conserving our rich biodiversity . It is with this objective that Department of Biotechnology has proposed establishment of ‘DBT’s National resource Awareness Clubs for school children. The DNA clubs across country Loyola institute of Frontier Emergy is one of the Regional Resource Agencies identified by DBT to implement the prodraw in the state of Tamil Nadu.
It was established in Cluny in the year 2007. The activities would be in such a manner that they are extracurricular, yet oriented towards the curriculum. The prime objective of the club is to enhance the understanding of Bio-diversity , Bio-resources and Biotechnology.
The major objectives of the DNA Club are as follows:
To enhance understanding among students about the immense value of biological diversity of our country, the importance of locally available bio-resources, their sustainable use and conservation.
To familiarize students with scientific and technological issues related to biotechnology.
To provide students with an experimental learning opportunity.
To create opportunities for hands on experience in the field at the school level.
To stimulate student interest in pursuing careers in science and technology.
